I was digging in crates and found a Van McCoy album, The Real McCoy. I love the symphonic qualties and absolutely playful lyrics. Van is a DC treasure. I hope to collect more of his work. I am happy to see this company is maintained and so many of the music rights are in the hands of our Black community in the DMV! Kudos and thank you.

Is it possible to post a tribute to Mother Mattie Taylor on this site. She was beloved by ASALH and so many others.

VAN McCOY was honored with the Black Press All Star Award and it was sooooo deserved, even though he had already passed away. His musical contributions are still being felt. Just today (4/27/19) Kindred the Family Soul posted a Peaches and Herb song and I was happy to talk about Van McCoy. LONG LIVE HIS MUSIC!

I love Van’s work especially the huge number of 60s and early 70s tracks the sheer quality the fantastic productions - search out his work on Vando, Top and Bottom, Date, Share, Okeh as a starter - I first got turned on the the man when I bought Chris Bartley Baby its wonderful on Vando - it’s not difficult to find even today - flip the record over and prepare to be blown away - I’ll be loving you - just demolishes you - subliminal !
Fantastic records - wow he was so under rated
I have an Ardmore Beechwood acetate of him singing Just let me be - and boy he sings just great too
Never forgotten in this house .....

Van and I were classmates at Banneker Jr. High School. We were once the last 2students standing in a spelling bee. Also, for gym on Fridays, the diving door between girls and boys gym spaces was opened and the teachers taught us ballroom day.ching . Van was often my partner. His song the Birdland comes from one of our popular dances during those years. With all modesty, I was th e best Bireland dancer. Van and the other boys looked to dance with me to see who was the best partner.

Van was indeed a musical genious. His home town should find a fitting and lasting tribute to him and his music.

Van McCoy was an underrated and underappreciated artist who died at the peak of the disco era. Unfortunately, most of his albums are out of print, save for a couple of compilation albums. This does a very disservice to a significant artist. You are not forgotten Van!

Van and his music were my personal heroes when I was 14 way back in 1975. I enjoyed his music each album to his sudden death in July 1979. I kept my love for his music until today - decades later and still "the man of R&B". Van, wherever you may are now, do THE HUSTLE...
All the best,
Stefan

Was always a big fan of his, from his work with the stylistics, david ruffin, melba moore & his solo my favorite fantasy & last but not least the hustle. I was on my way home from work at the toll booth of the george washington bridge when on that July day in 1979 they announced his death. I was deeply saddened, and felt a loss, cause i knew we were robbed of his future music.

Mr. Van Mccoy left a great work. He brought joy to the world with their songs. One question: I read the biography of Mr. MacCoy calls that there were three singers: Faith, Hope and Charity. Is it true? He was part of Freemasonry? It is only a curiosidae, for I am a Freemason. I am an admirer of Mr. McCoy since 1975. May the Great Architect of the Universe has in good stead and bless.

Van was a musical genius who provided us with some great music. Sadly some of his best work has yet to be made available on CD. His composition, arrangement, and performance of "The Samba" from 1979 is absolutely incredible and a worthy successor to "The Hustle." It is with true sadness to reflect on his passing.
